Investing in Holbeck’s future

Heart of Holbeck is a £15.9 million investment programme that will improve three important parts of Holbeck: community buildings, local homes and public spaces.

The funding has come from Central Government as part of their Regeneration Fund.

The programme is being developed in partnership with Leeds City Council, Holbeck Together and Leeds Building Society, alongside input from local organisations and members of the community.

The programme of works focuses on improving local facilities, strengthening community assets and supporting better outcomes for local people.

At the centre of this work is the redevelopment of the Old Box Office on Domestic Street. Through investment from partners including Holbeck Together, Leeds City Council and Leeds Building Society, the building will be transformed into a modern, flexible community space for Holbeck.

Plans include space for community activity and support, including a welcoming reception, community supermarket and kitchen, a new home for re:loved Holbeck Together, offices and room for other organisations and services.

Why it matters

Heart of Holbeck is about more than redeveloping buildings. It is about creating welcoming local space, improving access to support and investing in the future of Holbeck and its communities.

Key milestones

  • 1-8 January 2026 – Holbeck Together staff working on moving offices
  • 4 January 2027 – Old Box Office temporarily closes for redevelopment
  • January–July 2027 – Old Box Office refurbishment works take place
  • During closure – Holbeck Together continues operating from St Matthew’s Community Centre
  • End of July 2027 – Planned return to the redeveloped building

Temporary closure of the Old Box Office

To enable redevelopment work to begin, the Old Box Office will temporarily close from 4 January 2027.

During this time, Holbeck Together’s services will continue from St Matthew’s Community Centre. Staff will remain available to support local people, and existing phone lines will stay the same.

This temporary move is an important step towards creating an improved community space for the future.
