Who We Are
We are Holbeck Together.
Established as a Neighbourhood Network Scheme in 1992, our goal was to support older people living in Holbeck. Drawing on these experiences and expertise, we now welcome people of all ages and backgrounds to use our services. We work closely with communities to strengthen existing relationships and resources, keeping people socially and physically active, and empowering them to make more informed choices and live longer.
We provide a variety of services, activities and opportunities for people to get involved locally. Many activities are specifically for people of older ages (Over 55s friendship club, meal delivery services etc.), others for younger people (Healthy Holidays/Parents and Tots), and some for all ages (Trips, Activities).
Once the beating industrial heart of Leeds, Holbeck has a rich history shaped by the people who have lived and worked in the area. It’s a history brimming with pride, entrepreneurship and success.
Yet more recently Holbeck’s situation has been better reflected by the startling fact that it is one of the 0.2% poorest areas in England and challenged by deprivations in income, employment, education, health, housing, environment and suffering from high crime rates.
Holbeck Together’s office is in a prominent position in the ‘Heart’ of Holbeck, enabled through our partnership with the Leeds Building Society. Local people are delighted to see ‘The Old Box Office’ rejuvenated and used for the benefit of their local community.
Our central location enables us to engage with the community in more diverse ways, to mobilise the skills of the Holbeck Together team more frequently and provides us with further insight into the needs of those we support and our neighbours. Many people drop in on an impromptu basis or enquire about services; more agencies working in the area stop by to collaborate with us on projects such as Being You Leeds and Better Together, more local people come in who want to support their community by volunteering with Holbeck Together.
