HEA launches ‘Underneath The Arches’ Dementia cafe with the help of Gabby Logan, Christine Yorath and Hilary Benn

17th May 2017

On Monday, to kick off Dementia Awareness week, HEA launched its first Dementia cafe for the Holbeck community, at Ingram Gardens Community Centre. In partnership with The Alzheimer’s Society and with help from the Co-op in Beeston, HEA provided a freshly cooked lunch, stimulating reminiscence activities and practical advice for attendees.

We were delighted to welcome Christine Yorath and her daughter Gabby Logan to officially open the event and they were kind enough to spend time talking to everyone who attended, even helping out with some of the games! We were also joined by our patron, the Right Honourable Hilary Benn MP, who helped to start the new initiative in style.

Those with Dementia were joined by their loved ones and supporters to access professional guidance in an informal, friendly and welcoming environment. In addition to supporting individuals in our community, the new initiative aims to raise awareness of the condition and provide educational material for those interested in learning more. BBC Radio Leeds, BBC Look North, The Yorkshire Evening Post and Made in Leeds TV all joined us on the day to support the work being and capture some of the highlights of the day.

Have a listen to our radio interview below and look out for us next week on BBC Look North, between 18:30 & 19:00 on BBC 1 (Yorkshire & Humberside).
